Project Idea_Storyboard and execution

This is the journey of a silhouetted character and its realization of how small it really is compared to its world.

Dynamic Imaging 2

This is a comparison of a brain cell and the universe. Would like to play on the fact that we may be a very small portion of something that's also compared to something else on a greater scale.
My plan is to start with a simple object and explore and navigate the workings around it until it zooms out to something small and the process is restarted.

The Final

Well, this has been one work intensive and time consuming project and I loved every bit of it. This is sarcasm, but seeing the finished product, I am very satisfied with the results. I noticed that the most stressful thing out of this project was rendering! There were many failed attempts at rendering and it increased the time of production. I guess when working big, it really does make a huge difference. Also, I really did learn the power of working local than on the server. One thing I noticed was that even your files that you are using on a comp needs to be on the local system in order to get its full effect. I had a many showcase of my final project to a couple of people and they seemed to get the concept and thought it was successful. Hopefully Jill feels the same!

Schedule

By 4/17: I plan to get a third of the project done. This includes the opening scene of the  powered off robot, a cut to the outside of the control room, a cut into the control room showing the scientist pressing a button to activate mechanical arm. On motion of the mechanical arm, it will cut back to the robot and the mechanical arm moving down and placing the energy ball into the robot's chest. It will then cut to a close up of robot's face indicating that it is online.

Demo Reel 3

WATCH VIDEO HERE!

The direction that this reel takes is very sleek and sophisticated. I love the introduction and how with a few words Skill Lab explained exactly what it is that they do. I love that the visual cues in this reel were based off of the audio so it kept a consistent rhythm through the reel. The beautiful contrast in each shot really caught my attention. I like that they made sure that each scene they used corresponded with the next even when they didn't seem to be from the same film project. I really enjoyed the transition between this elegant and slow beginning to a fast paced rendering of successful pieces.

Demo Reel 2

Watch The VIDEO HERE!

So, I love this reel for the fact that its very short and cut to the chase, yet I felt wowed by it when i watched it. The in your face position that Colin Sebestyen was well done and grabbed my attention from finish to end. I love the color gradient that is placed on the piece. I fee that it adds another element of beauty to this reel.

Demo Reel 1

I love the vintage and retro style of things and I feel that this demo reel takes it to that level of professionalism I like to see when attempting this look. I appreciate the production value that went into the title introducing Vincent VIRIOT who is the artist behind this reel. There is a theme and it corresponds with the videos very well.

Revised Idea

Elevator Pitch: In the year 3030, Scientists program a robot to have human traits and emotions.

Theme: Man vs Machine and Human strengths and will power.

The goal of the piece is encourage the knowledge of people no matter how far technology will grow in the future.
The goal of the film is to persuade the audience to not allow emotion to rule and maybe even blind them and their life decisions.

Short synopsis: In the Beginning scene we will open up with a narration, and text stating what is verbally being said by the narrator. The narration will introduce the reasoning behind the experiment. In 3026 the government ordered all states to let go all academic teachers and replace them with robots who had full curriculums and correct answers already programmed in. Technology is getting so out of hand that they feel they can use it for anything. The first teaching robots would deploy, yet they only understand right and wrong answers. Three years pass by and according to statistics the failure and dropout rate increased over these years since the robots were issued. Instead of giving the teachers their job back the government decides instead to invest money into an experiment that would give the teaching robots human traits and emotions to understand when the students need help and sympathize with a situation if needed. Once explained it will cut to a vacant lab with the exception of the robot. The control room will then be shown revealing two scientist watching. It will switch back to the robot and from a claw that the scientists are operating with from the control room will place a ball of concentrated energy into its chest. The robot will awaken and the test of emotions will begin. During this test it will switch back to the control room showing the progression of the procedure and checking off every emotion that is learned from footage. Each clip of information that the robot sees, the concentrated energy takes and formulates it into the emotion that is wanted for the robot. Once it gets to the emotions of sorrow, longing, and seeing death, and love the robot overloads and the transfer becomes incomplete and a failure. On the progress bar it will state that the robot was not strong enough for human emotion.

New and Fleshed out idea for finals

Elevator Pitch:
In the year 3030 a robot will be programmed with emotion leaving its purpose a new fate.

Theme: The theme I am going for is emotions and the effects it has on a person in everyday life.

The goal of the film is to persuade the audience to not allow emotion to rule and maybe even bind them and their life decisions.

Short synopsis: The year is 3030 and we begin in a top-secret lab with a vacant room with the exception of the robot that is about to be tested on. There is an operation room that won’t be showed but controls a robotic claw that will place this emotional energy ball into the robotic subject. Once placed, the robot will wake with a look that resembles someone with a conscience. The robot will be given a test for each emotion to make sure of its proper functions. It will be then given a task but the robot panics and fear is presented to the robot. With the small consciousness it has, the robot locates the emotional energy ball and rips it out. The robot felt that it would rather not deal with the functions of a human.

Tone and Execution: I would like this to have a chiaroscuro look to it. Also, I will use the knowledge of articulation for the character’s collage/ painted look.

ideas for Final

The World of Rhymes:
For this project i would like to create an alternate world where everyone rhymes with the next person. It is a strict rule in this world that everyone must create a rhyming phrase after any question or statement. Anyone who has broken the rule disappears into thin air. One day someone does it and they don't disappear and people are amazed. The main character then tries to convince everyone that they can do it too.

Tutorial time!

The tutorial i looked at was pretty straight forward yet very effective in giving footage a dramatic push of action. In the tutorial a tool called wiggler is used. I really had fun shooting the footage and then editing it with three basic steps. I then added my extra input to jazz the tutorial up a bit. I also looked at another tutorial and it went over the cc sphere tool which takes any still or movie footage and distorts the media to shape a sphere. It was showing a way to create the earth from still images and give it a 3d quality to it. I took these learnings and created a pinball with a texture picture of metal. It was pretty interesting.

Midterm Project

This project was extremely painful sometimes, but I enjoyed every bit of it! There were times in the process of creating this animation that I was stuck in a position where i didn't know what direction to go in. As in one of my previous projects I wanted to give this piece an effect of glitches on the screen. I was successful in some aspects. Although I wanted a glitch effects, I also wanted the glitch to be synced the a beat that i created from scratch. I really enjoyed the process of placing every image on beat because the finished product was rewarding. I still feel I have small things to fix, but overall I like the piece and very satisfied with it.

Midterm Progress Update

From the critique, I took what was said and went back and tried to make elements of my pice more natural and convincing. I felt really successful in my execution. I added new elements to my "big bang" in the beginning but i still feel it is missing something. I did add something that i really did like. I did a quick zoom into the camera but behind the character is a trail of itself indicating and representing speed. I think i pulled this effect off pretty well. I also worked on the audio tracks some more. It is coming along well, but i just have to make sure that everything that i created so far goes with the beat. I also changed the eye color and I am equally satisfied with the eyes. Overall, I felt i got a pretty good amount done in the time we had.

Midterm Progress

over the weekend i really mapped out all of the scenes i was planning to do. When i started, the scenes took so much longer than i expected. I basically got almost half of the project done. I really enjoyed my experience on this project though. I also went back and really organized my material. the Next thing i chose to do (because i couldnt go any farther without it) was the sound track. It is going pretty well so far. I just have to make a way to end it.

This is the Video!

Revision Time

When i was working on my revision of my idea i really had a hard time coming up with an elevator pitch! Even though I have one I'm still not sure that it is even satisfactory. Yet true, a lot of thought did go into straightening out my ideas for this project and I feel that it is pretty solid. I did change the ending to a very simple one for the fact that the project itself is complex so i wanted the end to be subtle. I really enjoyed working on the designs of my baby even though it took me forever to get every kink worked out. I still plan to explore more possibilities with the text and many more textures according to whatever objects my test subjects responded with. I did have a couple of problems on jointing certain parts of my character than i plan to correct in the near future.

Execution

Midterm Idea revision

"Elevator" Line – Out of nothingness, music is born and discovers itself through trial and error.

Theme – The theme is about what emotions sounds give off and what visualizations can be created through that emotion.

What is the central point you are trying to make with this film? The central point is to express that sound is more than what a person hears.

What is the central goal of the film? The central goal of the film is to open the audience mind to let them explore music in a more satisfying way through allowance of new ideas.

What is the movie about in abstract terms? The movie in abstract term is sound that can be seen.

Short synopsis:
The setting is placed in a dark void. From the dark void, the main character pops into existence with no explanation. The main character is a baby representing music. The baby is dressed in 2012 urban attire with a set of headphones that are connected to his head, transmitting sound waves through the baby’s ears. The conflict arrives when the baby is unable to visualize, at first, the unfamiliar sound of itself. This upsets the baby and causes him to cry. This is when a God like voice interrupts the baby’s crying and shouts “Listen!” He then stops his sniffling and the once unfamiliar sounds seem to formulate and the baby is amazed. The rhythmic beat begins to be a learning tool for the baby to grow upon. This makes him realize a greater sound that is yet to come.

Tone and Execution – The tone and Execution will be a spacey and mysterious yet urban graffiti type look. (Ex. ET-Katy Perry Music Video)

Objective – I want the baby to see pass the initial exterior of this presented sound and create an improved sound based off of the potential that it has. They say that you can listen to the first 15 seconds of a song and see how much it is worth. The goal is to break this saying and allow a longer realization for musical beauty.

Midterm Idea

"Elevator" Line – The singularity, better known as “Project: Knowing”, creates a visual guidance through sound.

Theme – The theme is about what emotions sounds give off and what visualizations can be created through that emotion.

The character is introduced as a “singularity” in this void and expands into a human like creature with the facial features of a baby. The conflict arrives when “Project: Knowing” is unable to visualize, at first, the unfamiliar sound of music. The figure is dressed in 2012 urban attire with a set of headphones on, allowing the music that created it to be formed into something new. The rhythmic beat is a learning tool for the figure to grow upon allowing the mind to visualize the sounds that are put into existence and realize a greater project that is yet to come.

Tone and Execution – The tone and Execution will be spacey and mysterious. (Ex. ET-Katy Perry Music Video)

Visual Sounds 2

Some f the visual cues in this music video captured my attention. Flickering of lights were corresponding with the rhythm and pattern of the beat. I would like to incorporate this in my project.

Visual Sounds

This video had some nice elements that i would like to explore and maybe include in my midterm piece. I love the spacey and trippy aspect of this video. One transition i was interested in was 2pac forming into a record. I don't want to take that exact approach, but i would like to express the thoughts of my subjects through morphing on the objects that saw through the sounds i presented to them.

Layer Modes

I really enjoyed this project because i felt it had the most freedom of the projects in the past. It opened a creative element that allowed me to choose what subject i wanted to focus on, which also allowed me to do what i felt could be most comfortable to work with. I did notice that the way that the layer modes show up can be based on purely luck even if you do have knowledge of each layer. When I was shift + and -ing i was basically hoping for the best on each layer. With that being said though, I still new what basic look I was going for. I titled my piece Subliminal because the look I was going for was subliminal messaging and that message is my name.

Composite Loop and Mask

So to be honest I don't think I did this project correctly. In the assignment right up it said to create a comp that would loop seamlessly. I didn't know if that meant the entire composition so when the frames finish, it wont be obvious that the scene is over. I definitely did not do that and hopefully it was just to crate a loop within the composition. Regardless i am pretty satisfied with the outcome of my piece. I did run into some problems when trying to create the illusion that the man was morphing. It wasn't working at first because I made some careless mistakes. This mistake actually caused after effects to run slower on this project and also take up more time than needed leaving my eyes very hateful of me.

Masking and Replacement Mapping

I really enjoyed the process of this project. The method I used was very simple which allowed me to easily work through the project. Sometimes I did run into the problems of releasing frames when I didn't want them to show anymore. I figured it out with a little trial and error. Since I didn't want any pixelating of the background, I decided to construct my cave from pictures of mountains and duplicating them to where they look like the hanging rocks in caves. I also wanted this project to have an intimate look considering my first project, "On The Moon," which was projected from afar. Overall i enjoyed the process of creating this project especially the creation of the flame from the lighter.

Revision

On The Moon I revised a couple of areas I felt needed revision. One thing that i wanted to address was making the sitting cycle of my character to look more natural to give the character some weight. I then created a new box with relevant and recently deceased music artists to comment on the role of music artist and how the reputation of music artist have changed.

The Animation

I really had fun with this project yet some challenges were thrown at me. Once i finally sat down to begin the project i didnt know where to really start! Though true, once i got the first initial point down it was smooth running. Though i say smooth running, i feel that some of the physics of the body movement was not as smooth as i wanted it to be. One problem i ran into was that my object was moving, but everything else was very static. I found a way to create a camera movement without changing it into a 3d layer and i feel that it helped a lot. I also reduced the size of the head because i found it a little distracting. Overall, I enjoyed this project and for my first animation i feel that it is pretty successful.

Sample Test of Movement

Not the best but....

Dynamic Imaging Revising and Story board

During my revision I  had to really do more than i expected. Once i really started to move the character i started seeing things that were problematic if they were not addressed before taking it into After Effects. I don't want to say exactly what just for the sake of if I didn't tell you, would you have noticed? I added pictures of classical musicians in a row and contrasted them to a point of threshold. i also did this with a group of silly faced pictures. I felt that doing this it would contrast better with the overall piece. My story board is pretty simple just because of the same movements that will be made until the character's destination.

Dynamic Imaging First Project

Hearing this assignment, I felt that creating photoshop layers to create an articulate object and a layered back ground would be considerably easy. Though in some aspects it was there was still steps I failed to address upon getting the assignment. One, was that I had no clue what i wanted to do. The other was not knowing if I were doing it right. Its like when you have the most freedom to do as you please the more it makes you feel like you can't do anything in a fear that it's still not what is wanted. When i started the project i began with a mistake by erasing the pictures instead of masking them. I soon realized i was doing that i quickly changed that. The basic idea for my piece is taking the concept of the first man on the moon and creating a time where there was the first classical pianist who played on the moon. I used a black and white theme to play on that time period. Overall this project was pretty simple. Though a little discouraging I feel I did an exceptional job.
